Lady Elvis

My first masterpiece! I was so proud of her—this was, up till then, the hardest I worked on a piece. I started using very large stones for her hair at first, but she ended up looking like a “bowling ball” head. So I peeled them off, sent them back, and got smaller ones. She is based on a figure that my sisters and I were taught to draw as kids. You start with an “S”, then 2 dots for the nostrils and red plump lips, then the big hair. It’s the only human figure I know how to draw. I was going to name her after my sister, Marian, just due to the association, but then I realized my piece was way too glamorous. With the sequins and rhinestones she looked very “Vegasy”, or “Nashvilley”. That is how I came up with her name. As much as I love her, I always wonder how much more beautiful she would look if I had been rich enough to use the real rhinestones for her hair, rather than the cheap, boring acrylics. I always think she would look GREAT hanging in a night club. Hear that, club owners???
